This Unexpected Business Secret Prevents Burn Out

You know that feeling when you’ve been concentrating too hard, usually on a screen and your eyes are tired. Your shoulders and neck are sore. You can sense these feelings in your body but if you just get done with one more task then you will relax.

When you finally get away from your work you just collapse and sometimes pass out. Raise your hand if you’ve done this one too many times? *Raises hand* The secret I’m going to talk about isn’t really a secret. I haven’t seen many people talking about it in terms of running a business so I wanted to amplify it.

We all know the dangers of burn out from trying to do too much and stressing out. The easiest solution is the secret I’m going to tell you. I bet you already know it- even if you think you don’t!

What’s the Secret to Prevent Burn Out?

Rest

You can hustle forever but without rest your body will make you rest whether you like it or not.

So instead of waiting for your body to break down and demand rest start building rest into your daily routine.

We can’t all get away for weeks on a luxurious vacation but I bet you can take 5 or 10 minutes for yourself.

When you rest, you catch your breath and it holds you up, like water wings...

    Start Small

Start out with minutes if you can’t get to hours. Anything is better than nothing when it comes to preventing burn out.

My body is asking for more rest this week and instead of complaining this time I’m embracing it.

For productive and perfectionist people it is our worst nightmare to get sick or take a break.

So you make yourself feel worse when you’re sick because you aren’t getting anything done.

    Find What Works For You

Rest looks different for everyone. Things that relax me might stress you out. Pick activities (or doing nothing!) that are relaxing.

Sometimes when I take a break and I’m not sure what to do I will intentionally do nothing. Laying down and staring into space or resting my eyes.

This could also be taking a walk, deep breathing or stretching. When I can’t get in a full yoga routine some stretching or movements are better than nothing.

Now you know the secret that wasn’t really a secret to prevent burn out.

Let me know what your favorite thing to do when resting is in the comments.
