Make Your Brand Look Amazing in 2 Days

I used to think branding wasn’t that important years ago. Sure some logos were cool but I didn’t really get it. Fast forward to today and I know so much more about branding and why it can help your business stand out online.

While I can’t teach you everything I know in one blog post (it would be way too long!) I can help you refresh your brand in 2 days and make it look amazing.

Start With a Mood Board

Some people are obsessed with mood boards and I’m some people. ;)

I have a few posts about mood boards if you don’t know where to start or need to know how to refine them for your website.

Mood boards will help you bring all your design ideas together to create one cohesive look for your brand and business.

This helps you stand out in your niche or subject matter and makes people remember you.

You don’t have to use a mood board though if you don’t enjoy it.

The alternative approach is to take design elements you like, colors, photos, fonts, and redesign one page of your website.

If you like it then carryover those new design elements to your other pages on your site.

Choose Colors

You might not need to change your colors much. Just adjust them to they make sense from your mood board. If you want to know how many colors you need for your brand my rule of thumb is 3 to 5. Two or less can be boring and six or more might be too chaotic.

Don’t be afraid to break these rules though. If you have a really fun and expressive brand with tons of color options, go for it! Just make sure all your choices are intentional and not just random. That brings me to color psychology.

Colors influence how people feel about your products or services. For example if you’re running a fun candy company targeting kids you wouldn’t want a conservative color palette like navy, red and white.

Your colors should fit with your mood board and how you want people to feel about you, your brand and the transformation you provide.

Stock Photos

Now that you’ve got your colors and mood board it’s time to find photos that reflect these changes. There are so many stock photo websites but one of my favorites is Unsplash which also has Squarespace integrations making things super easy. For my full comprehensive list check out my free download Pics for Clicks.

Stock photos are important beyond just being fun and bringing personality to your site and embracing your branding elements. They can also help you with SEO and accessibility two very important things to have in tip top shape to attract your ideal customers and clients online. Fonts

Fonts are fun but can get confusing so I’m going to keep it simple on here! Serif fonts have little feet on the bottom and sans serif fonts don’t. Simple, right? There are so many cool fonts out there but the main function of them is to be able to read them. Steer clear of any fonts that are too hard to read even if they look really nice or just use them in your logo or brandmark.

For a simple brand refresh unless you already own custom fonts I recommend using the font packs in Squarespace. This way it stays consistent across your site and any changes will be universal meaning they will change on all your pages.

To change your font pack go to Design > Site Styles > Click Fonts > Switch. Choose which mix of serif and sans serif you like and is similar to any fonts you were drawn to on your mood board. Never forget to refer back to your handy mood board. That’s what it’s for!
