Why I Use Reels Instead of Ads

At the end of 2021, I decided to try out making Reels.

I recorded a video because I was bored after recovering from eating too much turkey and pie on Thanksgiving.

Fun fact about me is I’m almost always bored or looking for something to do!

The results surprised me, in a good way, so I decided to keep going and learning about creating videos.

As of this post I have over 270k views across all my Reels! I really never thought this would happen.

If you’re a business owner or want to reach a new, wider audience Reels is a great way to do it. Here are a few reasons why I use Reels instead of ads in my business.

Free

One of the biggest perks to Instagram Reels is they are free to make and have such a wide reach across the platform. They only cost you time learning a bit more about the platform and creating video content.

This was one of the many reasons why I decided to keep learning about creating video for my business. All the social media experts are saying video is the new format to use. The sooner you learn and master it the better off you and your business will be.

I wasn’t convinced right away but after tracking my Reels views and reach compared to my ads the difference between the two wasn’t even close.

I had more impressions, views and engagement with Reels vs ads. I wasn’t sure if anyone was telling business owners that they could easily film a few short videos a week and get way more bang for their buck instead of wasting it on ad spend.

Flexible

If you have a content marketing strategy in place or want to expand it, Reels will help you streamline the process even further.

For me I create one large piece of content, like a blog post, then repurpose parts of it and post them on multiple social media platforms beyond Instagram.

For example one blog post could generate 5 Reels which I can repost on Pinterest, YouTube and LinkedIn.

Creating these videos once and posting them multiple places is helping me grow quickly as a new business owner. I also don’t have to worry about creating content daily, even if I post daily, because I batch create my content once a week.

Growth

The best part of creating and posting Reels is the growth. Look at any account on Instagram consistently posting Reels, including mine.

The numbers don’t lie and the reach you get for putting in a relatively small amount of work is nothing short of amazing!

My Instagram account is relatively new, I started posting consistently around fall of 2021 and it’s helped me grow faster then similar accounts not taking advantage of Reels.

It can be a bit confusing when you’re first starting out which is why I created an awesome resource for business owners, anyone who wants to spread the word about their new project or wants to grow.
