Take Risks and Tune Out the Negativity
I found this great quote from a Facebook page I follow, one of the few reasons I’m still on this platform at all!
If I listened to the negative committee in my head who knows where I would be?
These thoughts love to play on your doubts and insecurities.
Tune Out the Negativity
You could try learning that new skill but would it even be worth it? Everyone else is so far ahead of you.
As a person who claims to be logical the advice from the negativity committee is never logical.
Of course people who are more advanced then me at a skill are better then me as a total beginner. But they were all beginner’s once too!
Sometimes I wish my younger self could have learned this lesson sooner. Even as a kid I was afraid of taking risks while still being very curious.
This is a lesson I keep having to learn over and over again. My brain wants me to stay in my comfort zone where it’s safe. But you can’t grow inside your comfort zone.
Another truth I would tell my younger self or anyone who is listening.
Wishing and thinking about something happening doesn’t work.
Take Risks
You need to take action.
Even if is is a small action. They will add up in the long run.
Here is my small risk I took in September 2019 that I’m so glad I did!
I decided after a long day of work during our busiest season to drive 60 miles round trip to see one of my favorite writers Roxane Gay.
The traffic was a nightmare, rush hour, and so was parking.
It is so frustrating when you have to keep circling the campus because you don’t want your car to get towed or accidently run over a student.
I made it to the auditorium and enjoyed every moment soaking up the energy.
Afterwards I snagged a pretty good spot in the book signing line and had some fun 5 minute banter about the weather with Roxane.
If I didn’t take that relatively small risk I never would have met her or have signed copies of her books!
I would love to hear about the risks, big or small, you took that paid off or just felt great.
