Making The Social Media Witch
I love so many different color palettes, mood boards, and graphics then I could possibly use for just my own website.
There are so many sources of inspiration when you’re a designer.
This is why creating and brands and sites for other people is so much fun for me. And I don’t have to change my branding.
Meet The Social Media Witch
I’ve always been inspired by the dark witchy, spooky, celestial aesthetic.
Think rich purples and reds with some gold stars to break through the dark color palette.
While this is similar to the branding for Redesignia it’s a little bit different.
I wanted to create a website and brand that was similar but in a whole different type of industry.
So The Social Media Witch was born.
After creating a mood board in Pinterest and picking out the colors and graphics to use in the branding design I also sourced some illustrations to add some extra sparkle and magic.
See if you can spot them in the mockups below.
If you want the see The Social Media Witch in action here’s the live site.
Homepage
My approach with the homepage was to make it feel magical and whimsical while still maintaining a more minimal look.
The main colors are purple, red, and black with sprinkles of gold throughout.
Of course for contrast and readability we have a shade of white for the font.
I had so much fun sprinkling the little magical illustration graphics throughout the homepage focusing on the above the fold area.
All the photos and graphics were inspired by things that are inherently witchy to me.
See the moon, tarot, astrology, etc.
About & Contact
I wanted to create a story for this person’s business that was believable and would resonate with their target audience.
Most small business owners or entrepreneurs I know either tried the normal, corporate path and ditched it or they knew from the get go they would never thrive in corporate so they’ve been freelancing or working for themselves.
I always love reading people’s backstory on their about page and I knew any potential mystical businesses would definitely want to know more about the origin story of The Social Media Witch.
For The Social Media Witch she learned everything about marketing and social media from her full time job and then she started a business.
This is such a common story, learning skills in your 9 to 5 then using them to create a business, and it’s mine too if you’d like to learn more about me. :)
Contact pages are pretty simple so I added a little fun at the bottom with a scrolling CTA to Join the Coven aka The Social Media Witch mailing list.
Projects
It might be weird but I enjoy making up brands to be in my spec sites!
It’s so meta creating something that only exists within something else and it all, mostly, came from your brain.
I would love to show off all the pretend brands that The Social Media Witch has worked with but you’ve got plenty of images in this post already.
You can always visit The Social Media Witch to see them all.
The one in the mockup is called Huckleberry Design and it’s an interior designer who is inspired by the same witchy aesthetic as The Social Media Witch.
So they obviously got along really well. :)
This website was very project focused with two other brands from the projects page; a palm reader and a Misty Velvet a brick and mortar store in Brooklyn.
Scheduling
Your contact page or scheduling form doesn’t have to be boring.
Readable and easy to use? Definitely yes but not boring.
That’s what I love about the use of color on this page.
One of my favorite color combinations is black and gold.
There’s so many unique ways to do it.
I leaned into the witchy and celestial vibes here with a constellation and awesome stock photo from Unsplash.
