Making Baddie Tattoo Shop

Do you know what the worst part about creating a mood board is? Not getting to see it come to life in a brand or website!

I love making mood boards but one of the downsides is not getting to see the finished project.

So I decided to take one of my favorite mood boards, hibernating on Pinterest, and create a website.

Meet Baddie Tattoo Shop

They are super fun, irreverent, and don’t really care what you think about them.

The inspiration for this brand and mood board was Y2K, hyper feminine colors and graphics, and not taking yourself too seriously.

Mood Board

The chaotic nature of the mood board collages I love making works perfectly for the messy and authentic aesthetic of the Baddies.

I didn’t want anything to look too perfect and polished. That’s not the vibe.

Everything from the brand colors, graphics, photos and fonts came from the mood board.

Homepage

I love these fun, spiky shapes that are reminiscent of traditional lower back tattoos that were popular in the early 2000’s.

I added at least one to every page to have visual consistency which is important if you want your branding to be recognizable and stand out.

Even though I wanted this brand to be fun and stand out making things easy to read with a good visual flow is still important.

Even making the copy was fun! Peep the CTA on the buttons to "“Get Inked” and the scrolling “Ur Skin Ur Rules”.

Throw in some emojis and custom hashtags and the baddie tattoo shop is coming together!

Booking & Portfolio

Book with a Baddie. I wanted to give another option besides booking an appointment which is why I added a consult call.

I know a lot of people are nervous about their first tattoo and would love some expert advice as opposed to anonymous, blanket advice from places like reddit.

Join the baddie community. Portfolios are almost the most important part of a tattoo shop’s website.

You as a potential tattoo client need to see their work.

Our Artists

Meet the Baddies. I wanted to have a page spotlighting the artists and the styles they love to do.

This could be much more extensive with a page for each artist but I like this as a jumping off point to get to know your potential artist better.

Links to their Instagram or personal websites could go underneath each picture or linked from the picture.

I don’t know why but sometimes tattoo artists like to seem a little mysterious and elusive so I aimed for a little more transparency for these artists.

Contact

Here’s where all the important information lives.

Another thing I’ve found lacking on business websites in general is the important information, ya know the stuff people need to know, is either hidden, hard to find or nonexistent on their websites.

For example, a big gripe people have with restaurant websites is they don’t list their hours, address or menu.

People are begging for these meager scraps of info.

I wish I could collectively tell these businesses, “Hey, not to alarm you, but you’re probably losing customers because of your website.”
