Build Your Website Without Using Code

I adore a shortcut. If there’s an easier, more streamlined way to do something I’m all in.

I loved finding the fastest, most efficient route driving home without running into traffic when I had a commute.

I wasn’t always like this. I liked to soldier through learning things and doing things the hard way. That’s how I first tried learning how to create websites. This led to burning out and feeling like a massive failure for quitting.

The good news is you don’t need to be a coder or web developer to build an awesome website. Here are a few ways to get started building your website without using code.

Pick a no code platform

This one is kind of a no brainer! Many platforms are more user friendly and easy to use. My favorite no code platform is Squarespace. I used it to create my first website and never stopped.

This platform uses sections and blocks to build your website along with drag and drop functions that simplify a complicated process.

Just in case you want more options there are tons of others like Wix, Showit and Webflow. Basically as long as you stay away from Wordpress you should be good. Sorry not sorry.

Try out a trial site to see which platform works best for you and keep the momentum going with the next step.

Use web design resources

You can learn almost anything with an internet connection, time and determination. I enjoy learning things by trying things out until I get stuck then searching online for answers. Use online resources to help make learning web design easier for you.

A few great places for free resources are articles, blog posts, podcasts and videos. Make sure to check out forums of your platform for any troubleshooting you’ll eventually run into.

Make investments in your learning

Whether it’s time or money you’ll have to invest in your web design learning journey. If you have more time you can dig through the internet to find resources and forums to answer all your questions. Your search engine will be your new best friend.

If you have more money you can accelerate your learning with courses, templates or guides to help you get started. These might also come with a community of people learning along with you and another great resource for any questions you might have.

Whatever you choose don’t try to learn everything everywhere all at once (loved that movie!) when it comes to no code web design. You’ll burn out and probably have to quit at least temporarily. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed so don’t feel pressure to learn faster.

Use code snippets

Here’s a secret web designers and developers don’t talk about. You don’t have to understand all the in’s and out’s of code to use code. Is your mind blown yet?

I’m not a coding expert and will probably never be and I use code snippets in my websites. The secret is taking advantage of this information already online.

Looking through forums or online stores like Ghost plugins will help you find code, specifically CSS, to further customize your site. Did you notice my cool color changing button on the top of the page? That’s a plugin!

Do you need to know code to create a website?

Hopefully you’ve realized that you no longer need to know how to code to create the perfect website for you. Cue the happy dance from everyone who doesn’t want to learn how to code!

You can always learn more and expand your skills after creating your website. I’m glad that knowing how to code isn’t a barrier to entry for us non coders out there anymore.
