Avoid Social Media Tricks
This year for Halloween Instagram decided to do all tricks and no treats. If you haven’t heard or experienced the fun for yourself many accounts lost followers or had their accounts suspended or deleted. Not the Halloween treat most people wanted.
This type of disruption or outage is common with most social media platforms including Instagram.
I remember the 2021 Facebook outage that spawned many a meme and freaked out many people and businesses.
So many people were worried about losing sales.
This outage is a great reminder that even though social media is a very powerful tool for businesses we still don’t own them and they could disappear at any time.
If this is the only way you have to talk to your audience or potential clients you’re playing a risky game.
Without an alternative way to connect with your audience you could potentially lose their information and have to start from zero.
There are two ways to branch out from social media and connect with your audience, starting an email list and creating a website.
Start an Email List
The best way to nurture people who are interested in your topic or niche is having them opt in to your email list. This way you can keep helping them learn more, provide value and let them know about any new offers you have.
There are lots of great email marketing systems and software out there. My two favorites are Flodesk and ConvertKit. Flodesk is great for designers and people who really care about the aesthetics of their emails.
The only downside to Flodesk is they don’t have as many integrations since they are a newer company.
I currently use ConvertKit and I know a lot of other entrepreneurs that use it and love it. Another bonus with ConvertKit is you can start on a free plan to try it out before upgrading to a paid one.
Create a Website
Surprised that a web designer is telling you to start a website? Probably not.
There are so many advantages to create your website and the best one is that it’s a platform you can control. The only outages you’ll need to worry about are the internet.
If you’re looking for an awesome all in one platform where you don’t need to know code I recommend Squarespace.
In general if you don’t want to learn how to code or become a programmer while running your business choosing a no code platform will save you a lot of time and headache from learning a skill you aren’t interested in.
A website can save you so much time in your business automating admin tasks that eat away at your time throughout the day and collecting information from potential clients any time without you anxiously checking your email all the time.
I hope this post helped you learn the two ways to connect with your audience without relying on social media.
