Use Social Media To Add Fun To Your Website
Nothing gives me the same rush as AIM notifications did. That’s AOL Instant Messenger if you fall outside my demographic. 😉
This was my first taste of being connected with people on the internet, almost instant communication and a pre cursor to social media.
I like parts of social media but the fun parts keep getting drowned out by ads, algorithm and app updates. The good news is you can add fun elements of social media into your website.
Share updates, stories and slices of your life without the negatives of social media.
Here’s how to bring social media fun to your website.
Revamp Your About Page
Most about pages can be generic but it’s a great opportunity to let people know more about you and your story.
I recently revamped my about page and a copywriter even remarked on how engaging it was! That’s a win.
The best part of your about page is you get to decide what to talk about and show off.
If your last job led you to pursue a new path or you had a light bulb moment that inspired you to start a new venture that can be in there.
Everyone loves a good backstory so make sure to share bits and pieces of your journey with your audience. You can summarize the jobs that made an impact on you, good or bad!, and what you learned from each one.
Trying out shorter versions of your origin stories helps people connect with you if they don’t know anything about you and this can help you forge a deeper connection with more casual connections.
Another thing that’s fun to add is FAQ’s about yourself. What are some common questions people like to ask you? Or imagine what people might ask you for the first time at a party. If you want some ideas in action take a peek at my about page.
Use Social Media Post Mockups
Lots of business owners have a live or updating feed from one of their social media accounts, usually Instagram, at the bottom of their website. This was a trend lots of people jumped on. Not to be a bummer but your website visitors aren’t making it to the bottom of your website.
Instead try peppering in your content throughout your site. Using mockups for your favorite or most engaging posts is a great way to show off your offers and content. This is an easy way to add more photos to your website too.
If you want to know where to find free mockups grab your free copy of Pics for Clicks. Mockups are a great way to show off your work and offers if you’re a digital creator or online service provider like a graphic designer.
Along with testimonials they can show potential clients your transformation process and results. Link these mockups to your social media posts or services page for eager buyers to connect and learn more about your offers.
Try Out A Now Page
If you’re ready to do more or go deeper try out a now page. Anything goes on this page. You can share your latest projects, movies you’ve watched or places you’ve gone. You can do this in any number of ways like an extended blog post.
What Is A Now Page?
According to Kali Edwards from June Mango, Derek Sivers came up with the concept of the now page which is as simple as talking about what you’re doing right now. It’s like an extension of the about page but more current and can change as often as you like.
I like the idea of a now page but if you’re designing your website yourself or just starting out I would put it on the back burner. It’s not as necessary as other website pages like your services or about page. If you have the time or work with a web designer you could create a now page pretty easily within a few days.
Social Media Fun
The integration of social media elements into our professional lives isn’t going away. In fact it’s a trend that’s going to keep expanding in the future. So why not get a jump on it now?
This post was inspired by a recent episode of Being Boss with a fellow web designer which reminded how much I enjoy learning and keeping up with trends in the industry and further cemented my love of using podcasts as a way to keep learning throughout the day.
