Update Your Website In 24 Hours Or Less

If you’re creating your website for the first time you are probably two things. Excited and overwhelmed!

I remember this is how I felt years ago when I created my first website, Kristen Morris Writes if you want to check it out. There are many places to start but if you want to improve or update your website fast this is the way to do it.

Focus On One Area

Unless you’re Superman or have amazing powers where you can get tons of things done in the day you’ll have to choose the most pressing area you want to focus on in order to update it quickly.

A few good places to start are updating images, adding in SEO or keywords and revising your copy or words on one page.

Breaking up a bigger task like updating all of your copy into something more manageable like updating your homepage copy will keep you from getting overwhelmed and diving into your Netflix comfort show.

I’m partial to Schitt’s Creek myself. :)

Try to choose something that will make an impact without being too much for one day.

If you don't pick something to focus on your quick project will turn into a monster time suck and we don’t want that!

Search For Resources Online

From Google to YouTube to TikTok there are so many resources (most of them free!) where you can learn almost anything especially web design or similar skills.

Streamline your search by looking for specific topics related to your topic. The difference between searching for “web design help” and “Squarespace website SEO” will bring you more targeted relevant results to help you make changes faster.

Blogs are also an awesome free resource especially for a complex skill in tech like web design, insert plug for the Redesignia blog in my own blog post. Meta, yes?

Take Action

Take the advice that works for you and do it! I think this is something a lot of people struggle with including me!

I will save and download a million helpful things but not take the next step of doing or improving the thing I'm working on.

Creating and changing things on my Squarespace website is so easy which is why I recommend it to everyone who wants to have a website they can easily update.

Squarespace page editing hack

If you’re worried about making visual changes that you aren’t sure if you will like them a great Squarespace hack is duplicating the page!

Navigate to Pages then click on the gear icon to the right on the page you want to change. Scroll to the bottom of the Page Settings pop up window and click on Duplicate Page.

Make sure to make your changes on the duplicated page. This way if you try out some new pictures or design elements and you decide you don’t like it you can just delete the page.

If you decide to you like the changes made on the duplicated page and want to keep them then delete your original page. Make sure to change the URL on Page Settings if you want it to stay the same.

Moving Beyond Free Resources

Free resources are great when you're starting from scratch, you've got a lot of time and you're not worried about creating and implementing quickly.

When you're ready for a faster more streamlined process try investing in some low cost downloads like templates or roadmaps if you don't want to get bogged down and overwhelmed without some guidance.

If you're trying to get your landing page up or improved in 2 days check out Square Dare.
