Fighting Perfection as a Squarespace Web Designer

The first time I read this quote from Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert I was shocked at how much it resonated with me.

Being a creative and a Squarespace web designer means that seeking perfection is something that can’t be reached.

I strive to create great work my clients love but perfection even in a website doesn’t exist.

Perfectionism is just fear in fancy shoes and a mink coat.
— Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic

I thought perfectionism was just about being perfect all the time. I know now perfection is not attainable for anyone because being human means being imperfect.

This quote from Big Magic finally connected the dots that my perfectionism was rooted in fear. Here are just a few of them.

    How I Fight Perfection

My fear to launch or show unpolished work because of judgment or discouragement.

My fear of showing up in process without having everything figured out. Spoiler- no one has everything figured out!

My fear of exposing my unfinished work to criticism. If you show your work in progress to people you know and not strangers on the internet they will usually be supportive and kind.

But guess what? If you never do anything that stretches you outside your comfort zone nothing will change!

    Read that again!

So even though I was sometimes afraid this year I created Squarespace web design digital products, opened a Squarespace web design business and continue to fight my tendency to stay small and never do anything scary like launch.

Now that you know how I fight perfection I would like to hear from you.

How are you stepping outside of your comfort zone in small or big ways?
